Our lookback at 2024: A holiday escape

During the Christmas holidays, I took some time off with my family in a cozy holiday home near the river Vecht, close to Zwolle. With no WiFi and surrounded by the tranquility of nature, it was the perfect setting to reflect on the past year. From our porch, we admired the wildlife—deer, the vibrant jay, and even a watchful owl. Disconnecting from technology gave us the chance to reconnect with each other and with nature and reflect on 2024.

Roots and Renewal

This year, I achieved a personal milestone with the launch of my book, Roots and Renewal. This biography details my journey back to Aruba, where I dedicated myself to fostering sustainable agriculture and pioneered the island’s first agritourism experience. It’s a story of challenges, growth, and hope.

The Question of the Year: Why the Netherlands?

Why did you move back to the Netherlands?” is a question I’ve been asked countless times this year. The answer lies in a mix of personal and professional reasons, which I share more deeply in my book. Leaving Aruba behind wasn’t easy, but it marked the beginning of a new chapter—one that still stays connected to the islands.

Building Bridges: Agritourism and Sustainability

Even from the Netherlands, I aim to stay connected to the ABC islands through Agritours.nl. Agritourism is a growing movement on Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao, as more people seek locally grown food and become conscious of climate change’s impact.
Farmers on the ABC islands face unique challenges due to climate and the lack of agricultural subsidies. This is why I’m passionate about promoting and supporting local initiatives.

Supporting Local Nature Projects

Agritours.nl isn’t just about showcasing tours; it’s about giving back. A portion of every purchase helps fund local nature projects and education. One project close to my heart is Seeds of Hope, which provides agricultural training to underprivileged youth in Curaçao.
