Dia di Rincon un fiesta di union
Every year in April, the picturesque village of Rincon on Bonaire transforms into a vibrant center of culture and tradition during Dia di Rincon. This day pays homage to the island’s rich history and heritage, and offers visitors an authentic experience of Bonairean customs.
What is Dia di Rincon?
Dia di Rincon, first celebrated on April 30, 1989, was initiated by Francisco “Broertje” Janga. Its purpose was to bring together the people of Rincon to celebrate their culture, traditions and history as the oldest settlement on the island. Today, it has grown into Bonaire’s largest festival, with thousands of people coming together to participate in the festivities.

Why is it celebrated?
The celebration marks the end of the harvest season, known as Simadan. It is a time for the community to show gratitude for the produce and to honor traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation.
Dia di Rincon Highlights
Sende Mecha: Festivities traditionally begin with the “Sende Mecha” ceremony, where the flag is raised next to the Catholic Church, followed by music and gatherings at Bustu F. G. Janga.

Simadan Parade: A colorful parade through the streets of Rincon, with participants wearing traditional clothing and celebrating the harvest with music and dance.

More than a Festival: A celebration of identity
Dia di Rincon is more than music, parades, and tradition. It’s a sacred moment that brings us back to our roots, to the wisdom of our elders. It’s a symbol of pride, unity, and cultural resilience. Not just something to watch, but something to feel and carry within.
This day doesn’t belong to one person or one group — it belongs to the people of Bonaire, who come together hand in hand to keep our traditions alive. We celebrate not just to honor our past, but to inspire future generations and show the world what Bonaire truly represents.
Without unity, there is no celebration.
Without respect, there is no culture.
Without all of us, there is no Dia di Rincon.
Let’s celebrate — together. 💛💙 🦩
